Pantone reveals its 2018 color of the year

Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.

Each year since 1999, the famous Pantone Color Institute reveals its Color of the year. After Greenery for 2017, Ultra Violet is honored this year- PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet to be more precise. The color is ambiguous: neither warm nor cool or can be either one or the other depending on a surrounded color.

Originality, ingenuity, visionary thinking and non-conformity are as many adjectives used to define Ultra Violet. In the pop culture, “Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront (…) as personal expressions of individuality.

Some say that Pantone’s choice is also political. The website Mashable goes a little bit further in the interpretation quoting “the color has a lot of resonance now“, referring to the women’s fight for equality.

And you, what do you think about it?
